A 17-year-old Renton High School graduate who drowned Sunday night at a party in Lake Retreat has been identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as Shing Vong.

According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, several teens among about 20 at the graduation party decided to go swimming around 11:20 p.m. Vong swam to a raft then brought it back to shore, where the victim got in.

Although he could not swim, Vong jumped into the water as the raft floated back out, authorities said. Then he started flailing in the water.
One boy tried to grab Vong but lost his grip. Others called 911. Vong was found by a sheriff’s diver about 20 minutes later in 14 feet of water, 20 feet from shore. He could not be resuscitated.

The parents who owned the home were unaware of the party and weren’t home.
