TACOMA, Wash. – A man pleaded guilty to a murder charge Wednesday in Tacoma for a shooting that took the life of an 18-year-old following a graduation party.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reports 20-year-old Xavier M. Magana of Tacoma faces a 20-year prison term when he is sentenced March 4. Magana was charged with the shooting of Alrick Hendricks after a private graduation party.

Witnesses said Hendricks had spent the evening partying at a graduation celebration. Magana and the victim got into some sort of altercation at the party that was continued outside just up the street from the party residence.

Witness reports indicate that Hendricks tried to flee as the suspect began firing shots. After Hendricks suffered an initial hit, Magana then walked closer to Hendricks and opened fire at close range. Hendricks was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police that Magana had challenged Hendricks to a fight at the party. The two reportedly had fought in the past with Hendricks prevailing.

This senior just didn’t want to go and his parents didn’t want to force him.
