“I was just in shock”-Stanwood Girl Thrown\u00a0into Bonfire at Her Own Graduation Party<\/span><\/h1>\n

\n

STANWOOD, Wash. \u2014 Ciara Hodges was celebrating her graduation with her friends when she was thrown into a nightmare.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hodges and her friends had lit a bonfire in her yard in order to burn their homework in a symbolic gesture.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the bonfire took a violent turn when a teenage boy became belligerent.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI tried to calm him down. He freaked out,\u201d Hodges said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hodges said the teen became even more agitated. He tackled Hodges<\/span>
and threw her into the fire.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was just in shock, really,\u201d she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hodges landed on her bottom. Friends pulled her out, but not before she suffered third-degree burns on her lower back.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHorrible, the worst pain ever,\u201d<\/strong> said Hodges. \u201cI was shocked. Angry and shocked.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Hodge\u2019s attacker then ran in the home, and told her father that it was he who had been attacked.\u00a0 But the girl\u2019s father soon learned the truth and called police.\u00a0 \u201cHe just was obviously on something,\u201d said Hodges.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not clear yet whether the teen will need skin grafts to fully heal. Surrounded by flowers in the hospital, she remains light-hearted, even counting her blessings for having avoided more severe injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m angry, but I\u2019m a forgiving person,\u201d<\/strong> she said. \u201cPeople need to learn their lesson if they do something like that.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The teen who attacked Hodges suffered burns to his face.
